Colombia: in the sights of major BPO&O and Software & IT multinationals
Hewlett Packard entered into a strategic alliance with the city of Medellín and the government of Colombia to open a new Global Services Center designed to operate as a center of operations with multifunctional capacities, such as in technology, office administration and sales support. Also, the Ruta N project, a technological park complex dedicated to innovation and development where the multinational will base its operations, began construction in the second semester of 2010 with a total investment of US$ 30 million.
Colombia: becoming a hub for the creation of sustainable distribution centers for several multinational corporations
Multinational corporations, such as Avon, Procter & Gamble and Yambal, are making millionaire investments in the creation of sustainable distribution centers in the country. This is one of the strategies that several companies in Colombia’s productive sector are employing to adjust to the global reality in which you cannot be profitable without being environmentally responsible.
The hotel boom in Colombia continues
Two years after announcing the arrival of the Marriott hotel chain in Colombia, half-way through 2010, this same chain opened its doors to its second hotel in Bogotá through its JW Marriott brand, considered the group’s most luxurious brand. On the other hand, the hotel group InterContinental Hotels Group announced its entering into an agreement with Espacios Urbanos, S.A., headquartered in Colombia, to manage a new InterContinental property in Cartagena, Colombia. The hotel will be the 23rd property of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Major international giants in homecare products arrive in Colombia
PriceSmart formalized its arrival in Colombia, and announced the purchase of land in Barranquilla, where it expects to open its first locale in mid-2011 with an investment of USD 17 million. Similarly, Office Depot entered the Colombian market at the end of 2009 with an expansion plan worth USD 55 million, and has realized a series of inaugurations throughout 2010 that combine the large store format with the express model.

Colombia signs Investment Promotion Agreement with South Korea and finalizes negotiations with Kuwait
Colombia and South Korea have signed a Reciprocal Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement. This agreement will deepen Colombia’s commercial relationship with Asia as it will facilitate the arrival of Asian capital to Colombia, and will help contribute to Colombia entry into a market that every day is increasingly more important in the global economy. Similarly, Kuwait and Colombia recently finalized negotiations for a bilateral Reciprocal Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement.
