  • Strategic Location: Tolima is strategically located in the middle of the country; it has connectivity and access to the main highways and roads of the country such as Troncal de Occidente, Troncal del Magadalena, Doble Calzada Buenaventura and Doble Calzada a Bogotá. Also, it looms as a strategic distribution point for merchandise being exported to the rest of the world.
  • Logistic Costs: According to information resulting from the comparison of freight rates from different Colombian cities to the ports of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, Tolima department has a competitive advantage in terms of logistic costs. Ibagué has been positioned as one of the top cities with best prices to compete in transport costs.
  • Incentives: There is a strong public support to investment through tax exemptions, even 10 years for industry and commerce tax, and 5 years for property tax (agreement 001, march 10th 2009 issued by the city council of Ibagué).
  • Human Resources: Qualified and talented human resource can be found in Tolima department thanks to the fact that there are 24 superior education institutions where well known universities are included, all of it resulting in the graduation of 55,423 students between the year 2000 and the year 2011 (Labor Observatory 2012).
  • Business Environment: Apart from occupying the second place in the subnational Doing Business raking, Tolima counts with an excellent disposition of its local authorities towards national and foreign investment that is why the government has made considerable investment in road and habitable infrastructure, has supported income increase and quality of life improvement, and has as a goal the construction of an international airport and the development of a free trade zone.
  • Quality of life: Tolima has a great variety of high quality service providers at competitive prices in the fields of health, education and public services. At the same time, it has a wide offer of restaurants, hotels, cultural and outdoor activities, and low real estate costs.
  • CEMEX: This mexican multinational has chosen Tolima as investment destination due to the availability and high quality of its raw materials. Its Caracolito plant located in the sector of Buenos Aires in Ibagué, is one of the most important ones in Colombia because it produces nearly 230,000 tons of cement per month, equivalent to 25% of the product being sold in the country.
  • GULF Oil International: With an investment close to the 10 million USD, this English multinational expanded and transferred its production plant in Colombia to Ibagué. The plant is located at the National Logistic Park of Tolima. The new plant has the latest technology in the production and packaging of oils, logistic area, warehouses for raw materials and finished products, offices, parking lot and a loboratory for the analysis of new and used oils, generating this way more than 400 direct and indirect job positions and consolidating a network of 32 distributors in the country.
  • DIGITEX: This Spanish company is dedicated to the outsourcing of business processes through customer relationship centers and IT. It generates 2,000 direct and indirect job positions.
  • Baskin Robbins: Baskin-Robbins is the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops. It is part of the Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc. and has nearly 7,000 retail shops in nearly 50 countries.
