• The sector includes 6.5 million hectares appropriate for the production of bio-fuel out of the 41 million cultivable hectares.

• Currently, Colombia produces more than 12 tons of sugar per hectare, surpassing Brazil and Australia.

• The varieties developed by Cenicaña (The Colombia Research Center of Sugar Cane) can be harvested every 12 months when before it took 17 months to reach harvesting stage; and what were formerly 3.5 crops per renovation cycle increased to 5, thus creating increased productivity and greater income.

• E10 in cities with more than 500.000 inhabitants (local consumption of 1,500 kiloliters per day).

• B5 national territory in June 2009 (local consumption of 9,406 mbd).
